Most people view cars as means of transportation and a nuisance you have to fix all the time, find a parking spot for and take good care of. But when a car becomes much more than that, and turns from a simple vehicle to a status symbol, a piece of art, a luxury item people only dream about, then you enter the world of mind-boggling prices and machines that make your jaw drop. The most expensive cars in the world are made with such precision, dedication and rare materials that truly require the numbers to go up when it comes to pricing, but just how expensive can a car get?
10 – Lamborghini Sesto Elemento – $2.2 million
Almost completely made of carbon fiber, Lamborghini Sesto Elemento weighs an astounding 999 kilograms. The super lightweight limited edition came out in 2010 and has wowed car enthusiasts worldwide. Even the model name ‘Sesto Elemento’ refers to the atomic number of carbon, as an homage to the extensive use of the material.
9 – Ferrari F60 America – $2.5 Million
Celebrating 60 years of Ferrari in America, the legendary car manufacturer produced a special open-top model of the famous F12. Keeping most of the features from the original model, the F60 America introduced some minor performance changes and more significant cosmetic alternatives. The production was limited to just 10 units, hence the price that made it even more exclusive.
8 – Bugatti Veyron – $2.5 Million
With several different version and models of the famous Bugatti Veyron, the price tags vary accordingly. The Super Sport version is, in fact, the fastest street-legal production car in the world, verified by Guinness World Records even, but we’ll focus on the original version here. Just the name itself already says it all; it is the brand, the luxury and status of having a Bugatti Veyron that speaks for itself.
7 – Pagani Huayra BC – $2.6 million
Named after the Incan God of Winds, Pagani Huayra lived up to the name and reputation by generating an immense level of power and speed, which combined with some sexy aerodynamics makes it move just like the wind. The Pagani Huayra BC also made the fastest road-legal lap in Top Gear, which says a lot considering the competition.
6 – Koenigsegg One:1 — $2.85M
The name One:1 is not a typo or a mistake, it refers to the superb horsepower-to-kilogram weight ratio, which is obviously 1:1. With groundbreaking feats of engineering and insane specs that hide behind Koenigsegg One:1 it is quite easy to understand why the price is what it is. This simply is one of the fastest cars ever built, and with all the features and top performance results you get for the money, the price tag is quite reasonable.
5 – Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio – $3 million
When the famous Italian design house Pininfarina creates a car, you know it’s going to fetch a steep price at the market. Ferrari Pininfarina Sergio is actually a redesigned Ferrari 458 Spider, which features an entirely new interior and body. Only 6 pieces were built and each one was reserved for a special customer chosen by the creator himself.
4 – Lykan Hypersport – $3.4 Million
Straight from the insane skyscrapers crashing scenes in Furious 7, this jaw-dropping automobile probably won’t be seen on a random street any time soon. With only 7 samples produced, Lykan Hypersport is so exclusive and extravagant it comes with embedded jewels in headlights, and the owners have the option of choosing between diamonds, sapphires or rubies. Now that’s some serious bling.
2 – Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita – $4.8 million
If you thought that previous cars from the list were rare and limited, the Swedish manufacturer is here to blow them out of the water. Koenigsegg CCXR Trevita was made in just two, yes that’s right, two samples, one of them belonging to the legendary Floyd “Money” Mayweather. Initially, Koenigsegg wanted to produce 3 CCXR Trevitas, but the process of creating the unique white carbon fibre was too complicated, so only 2 copies were made. The “diamond on wheels”, as the company describes the car, is coated with this special fibre which makes it sparkle with silvery white glare under sunlight. Not that any of that would matter at the whopping top speed of over 410 km/h.
1 – Mercedes-Benz Maybach Exelero – $8m
It shouldn’t come as a surprise that a Maybach tops any pricing list of cars. After all, the name itself is synonymous with extravagance and money. To further cement its name on the top of this list, the rarity also makes it number one, since there was only one Mercedes-Benz Maybach Exelero produced. The most expensive car cost $8m back in 2004 when it was created, adjusted for today’s currency, the price tag would just go over the $10m. You may be wondering who on Earth would drop that amount of money for a single car, well, it was the hip-hop star Birdman. According to some sources, he still hasn’t dished out the full amount , but you can see the Maybach Exelero in action in Jay-Z and Kanye West’s music video for “Otis”, or at least a modified version of it. So, with everything you could actually buy for $10 million, would a car be on your list?
